På Evje får man følelsen av å spille på en skikkelig golfbane. Lykke til
og kos deg!

Spilte Evje for første gang for en uke siden. Fin bane. I henhold til lokale kilder blåser det alltid inn fra havet, spesielt hvis det er fint vær. Dette betyr motvind på flere av de lengste hullene. Og banen er Norges lengste fra gul tee. Det går nok bra hvis du klarer å holde deg på fairway. Roughen er SEIG og bunkerne sultne på baller. Raske, men stort sett greie greener.

Here are my opinions to play the course:

Hole 1

Relative easy drive. The first bunker is not really in play. The big decision is do you go for the green or not? I have gone for the green nearly every time but the green just is not designed to take a wood. My tip is lay up and hit a good wedge. Easy bogey hole if you do not show patience.

Hole 2

If you are a good driver then get as close to the green as possible. If the flag is at the back then make sure you have enough club as the green falls away from you and it is a monster of a putt if you are short.

Hole 3

Cut the corner if you can. If you have between 130 and 160 metres to the green after your drive….use one stronger club than you think on the approach!! There is no back drop to the green so the green feels closer than it really is.

Hole 4

You need to hit a good drive and a good second shot to even think of a birdie chance here. Henrik Bjornstad is the only guy I know that has reached this green properly in two shots off the back tees. Be happy with a par on this hole.

Hole 5

Smash your drive as hard as you can, there is more room here than you think. Again use one more club than you think you need with the approach.

Hole 6

This hole is great. One of the only greens that I had a fair amount of design input. It is one club less than the yardage. Hit your shot confidently and you will be pin high.

Hole 7

Hit a drive as close as you dare to the fairway bunkers. If you get close to these bunkers then you can go for the green in two. If not then lay up to your favourite iron distance from the green. This is an easy birdie hole if you use your head.

Hole 8

Take enough club!! The green is deep so you can take two clubs more than you think if you want. There is no harm laying up either for an easy chip and one putt.

Hole 9

Great driving hole. Get as close to the bunkers as you can or even past. Again take one more club than you think and aim to the left of the flag. Everyone always seems to go right on this green. There is not that much room on the right.

Hole 10

Good looking Par 3 with American style bunkers. It is always one club more than you think. I have never seen anyone go long here. You cannot notice the wind as it is being hidden by the trees behind the green, however, as soon as you hit the ball it rises above the trees and gets caught by the wind.

Hole 11

Superb hole to open the shoulders. Loads of room on the left apart from the bunkers on there. Out of bounds on the right. My favourite green complex on the course. Be happy with a bogey on this hole.

Hole 12

More room than you think on this hole. Aim way left and let the ball come back down the slope. Easy green to hit and a good birdie chance. Don’t forget to club up because of the height change to the green.

Hole 13

Hit a long enough iron off the tee to make sure you get a flat lie to the tight green. Easy green if you positive with your wedge on the second shot.

Hole 14

Pick the right club and think positive. The green is huge and don’t look at the water…if you can…

Hole 15

Just blast away with your driver or 3 wood and get as close to the green as you can. Even if you go in the fairway bunkers par is still possible. It is tight and use an iron if you are not playing well with the driver.

Hole 16

Don’t be scared of driving over the stream. It is only 189 metres to clear it and if it was a Par 3 you would go for it wouldn’t you? Club up on the approach and don’t be fooled by the false front. It is a WILD green. I don’t know where Jeremy was inspired from for this green as it is not a typical Turner green. It is a rollercoaster….superb!! Do not go past the flag.


Hole 17

Drive as close to the bunkers on the left to shorten the approach. Best to go right if you are going fail on one side with the approach. Tough pitch from the left side of the green.

Hole 18

Blast away and use the prevailing wind to help you…tee it up high. If you can reach the green go for it. The green bunkers are not that deep. If you are laying up be careful with your yardage as the green is 38 metres long. CHECK WHERE THE FLAG IS WHEN YOU PLAY THE TENTH…


Tips for the greens….there is more break on the greens than you think.

Tror jeg må skrive ut og ta med tipsene dine Brian! Veldig bra!
Satser vel på å spille konservativt og gå for paret istedenfor å satse for birdie. Forhåpentligvis slipper jeg unna de største blemmene..

Jeg kom meg relativt helskinnet rundt med mine 11 tildelte slag (hcp 8,9). Etter åpning med bogey, bogey, satt nærspillet bedre og jeg ble vant til de veldig raske greenene. Rundet 9 hull 3 over par og forhåpningene steg. Kom meg raskt ned på jorda igjen etter en duff på utslaget og to chipper på hull 10, dobbel. Synes indexen på de korte hullene 12 og 13 var gavmild og gikk av med par på begge og poeng i kassa. Etter å ha reddet par på korthullet 14. trodde jeg at nå skulle gutten ned i handicap. Men etter besøk i fairwaybunkeren, duff, greenbunker og et par putter på hull 15 ble det nok en dobbel. Med bogey inn etter dårlig nærspill og besøk i roughen ble det tilslutt 11 over par og 36 poeng.

Må si jeg ble imponert over banen! Roughen var særdeles tjukk og vanskelig. Var heldigvis relativt presis (men kortere) med driveren, men de gangene jeg var i roughen var det vanskelig å få lengde på innspillet. Lignet på roughen på Baltusrol! De fleste bunkerene var perfekt plassert i forhold til mine utslag virket det som og lange bunkerslag må heretter trenes på! Det var ingen (!) hull som jeg syntes var "rare" eller med merkelig design. Hyggelige folk gikk jeg med også!

Og takk for alle tips! Leste Brian sine tips før hvert hull og det ga større selvtillit når man spiller en helt ny bane. Klarte selvsagt ikke følge alle tipsene, var f.eks. til høyre på 9. green, altfor kort på innspillet til 16 og til venstre for fairwaybunkerene på 17. Men banen på Evje vil jeg anbefale for alle som vil ha en skikkelig test på ferdighetene!
